Shifa Basjarahil

Shifa is the Clinical Nurse Consultant in Wound and Skin Integrity at The Sutherland Hospital. Shifa has been nursing for over 20 years with experience in areas such as Emergency, Intensive Care, Haematology, Medical, Surgical, Paediatrics and Hyperbaric Medicine.


She is also a qualified Scuba Diving Instructor and has spent time in Asia, Central America and Mexico teaching Scuba. Her love of recreational diving, physics and nursing lead her to the Hyperbaric Unit at The Prince of Wales Hospital where she gained speciality experience in Advanced Wound Care, this then led her to her current role as Clinical Nurse Consultant. She has a Bachelor of Nursing, Graduate Diploma in Wound Care, Hyperbaric Nurse Attendant and is currently undertaking her Masters in Nurse Practitioner specialising in Wound Care.


She has a passion for education and patient safety and has completed the Adept Quality and Safety program created by the Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC). She has mentored and upskilled over 60 nurses in wound and skin integrity and lead a number of Quality Improvement Initiatives across her organisation. Shifa has had the opportunity to be an associate investigator and research officer in both local, district and state projects. She was a former NSW branch committee member for Wounds Australia and a current Taskforce committee member for the NSW Leading Better Care Chronic Wound initiative.
